[A tinny, electronic voice comes on the other line. The message recorded is very obviously a 'default' setting of the fluid, available to any user. It displays no name or identity.]
The person you're trying to reach cannot answer the phone right now. Please leave a message with your name and number after the beep and we will return your call.
[What? Were you actually expecting her to record a voice message?]
[What Varian would really like to do is yell a lot at that message. But Neo can't speak back to him, so it's a pointless endeavour. He'll stick to text.]
You tried to bury her alive? SERIOUSLY? That was your big plan? I don't know if you're even getting this. I kind of hope you're at the bottom of that sinkhole in town now. But we're probably not that lucky.
I was CIVIL last time. I asked you NICELY not to attack her again. But you went and did it anyway. Because of course, you did. But that was my one shred of goodwill I had for you and you've used it up.
She makes herself a convenient target. Would have worked if two books hadn't been enchanted. If it makes you feel better about yourself, I crawled out through the sewer line.
So, take a number and get in line, boy toy. Her sister's here, and her teammates have been at times too. You think I don't know none of you, or the hordes of friends she makes just by being her idiot self plan to stand idly by while I stab her until she stops twitching? Why do you think none of you turkeys know where I live? Or why I go in disguise when the cats aren't around?
I would have felt better if you hadn't of crawled out at all.
I don't need to know where you live. I've got by on less before. And the difference between her sister and teammates and me is that they are decent people. I'm not. But you go ahead and yuck it up. This isn't a threat or a warning. It's just a statement of fact. There will be reparations.
"Neopolitan has tried to murder Ruby Rose three times and can't get the job done right." "Neopolitan has tried to kill Winter Schnee in cold blood." "Neopolitan's murdered people in cold blood just to test the cats' response times and laid the blame on natives." "Neopolitan is a career criminimal with a rap sheet a mile long." "Neopolitan couldn't even save the man she loved when he needed her most."
[There have been plenty of rumors with Neopolitan's name quite literally written on them. Atsushi wanted to ignore them and move on, but they kept coming up... And they had one thing in common: They made him want to hate Neopolitan.
And he wasn't about to let Mother Superior be right.]
[Atsushi is hesitant to continue. His hand is actually shaking. Hopefully, she'll deny everything and he can try to sweep these rumors under the rug. If she confirms them... He isn't sure what he'll do. Except prove Mother Superior was right.]
Text is fine.
I saw some things written around town
about you.
I want to know how true they are.
I know you don't owe me an explanation, but if you could find the time for it
[ Glitch had the camera up and he's looking at his fluid trying to send a message to a certain someone. ]
Okay. How do I even fucking start?
Uh.
Heeeeeey, Hunk.
No, that's stupid.
Sooo, Hunk. You're cool. I'm cool. Why don't we-
No, that's really fucking dumb. [ He lets out an aggravated sigh, scrubbing at his face. ]
How did fucking Varian ask Ruby out on a date? Maybe I should just get into that mindset.
'Hey. I'm a science guy. Let me just mix these potions together and lets get the dating on.'
[ He scoffs at it and he continues to babble away. ]
No. That's even worse if I'm taking that route. Why am I even taking Martin's advice...fuuuuck.
Just forget it. Just ask him straight out. 'Hey Hunk, when the month from hell is over do you want to hang out like date like? I think you're cool and want to get to know you.'
If you're in trouble and you play this, the deer will help you. I hope you never need it. But just in case.
-Credence
[ Inside is a flute: ]
When the flute is played with a purposeful rhythm, it will begin to summon deer to wherever the player is standing. The longer the flute is played, the more deer they can summon. These deer will protect the player and anyone who is with them to the best of their abilities.
[When she got the gift, she was legitimately shocked. Sure, Credence was a nice lad, and dangerous as hell, both things she liked in a friend or ally. But this was unexpected.
But when she tried to reply and got only a bounced back message, the meaning was clear enough. She sighed and decided to keep the flute safe, just in case. Hopefully the guy with his scary powers was safe somewhere.]
[Emerald braced herself. she knew this was going to be a long conversation, and one that would be difficult for a lot of big reasons. but she needed to have it. she'd needed to have it for a long, long time. so she exhaled, relaxed the tension in her shoulders, and walked into Neo's room.]
Hey. Um. There's some stuff I wanted to talk about and it might get heavy. Is now a good time?
[She'd been about to put her shoes on to go out. She didn't have work for hours, so there was time. But when she saw Emerald slip in, she cocked her head and smiled at first. Her smile slipped a little and she started to look nervous, though she kept her cool.
There'd been some pretty big hints that Emerald really needed to talk for a while, for almost a month actually. Neo ... well, there'd been a few possibilities she really hoped weren't about to come up, but she was also going to be patient, to try and listen and figure this out. She wasn't going to freak out and assume the worst.
Patting the bed next to her, she set her boots to the side before scooting. Yeah, good a time as any.]
[She had to admit that she was a tiny bit surprised to get the message. But, not that surprised. If anyone was going to check in on her of all people it was probably going to be either Penny or Ruby, after all. Running her fingers through her hair, she yawned a little. She was not a morning person. A double espresso later, she felt coherent enough to reply.]
Intact, yeah. The plan of "Stay in the Library and don't go crazy" worked last month. As I'm sure you can plainly tell for related reasons, heh. I'm guessing from the lack of awful public messages you got out mostly ok?
[ Neo will find on her doorstep a small package. When opened she will find a a necklace. A card is attached that says;]
Neo. Got this in my basket with your name. Should help somehow. Also, don't go murdering Ruby.
-Glitch
[ ooc; this is what it does! + Dream - A necklace that helps the user see through hostile illusions. It must be on their person to have effect. This is for Neo. ]
[A little later the day it arrives, a text comes his way.]
Ok, seriously dude, this is actually really cool. You didn't have to do that for me, you realize, right? Mind you, it probably never hurts to be able to see through illusions.
You should have one for yourself, you know, in case I go nuts one day.
[Left outside the house is a dark blue basket. Inside is an associate of tea, chocolates, a box of lemon drops, a bottle of wine and a copy of Charles Dickens, Christmas Carol. A blue Tardis-shaped card attached to the basket says, 'Santa' in silver marker.]
[Maul has put all his sneaky warrior-ninja skills to good use, breaking into people's houses in the early hours of the morning, and leaving them their gifts in spots where he's sure they'll find them, with a tag addressed to them from Maul. He doesn't quite realize this gesture could be taken the wrong way given this is Deerington and all, but it's the thought that counts.
He's gotten Neo something he's sure she's gonna appreciate: a bracelet with a hidden knife in it. 'I'm sure you'll put this to good use' the tag reads.]
Haha, Maul this is beautiful thank you! I owe you something. Maybe I'll demonstrate you what dust does. I have a feeling you'd love it, because you're so lucky I don't trap the house anymore, haha.
Come by sometime and knock. I'll have the crate out.
[even though Emerald's been home, she's been surprisingly scarce these past few days. and she's not great at hiding it, so she knows that Neo has to have suspected something by now, but any time the opportunity might have arisen, Emerald had just been. shaken, quiet. worried, frightened, all but inconsolable. any time she'd had to leave the house, she hadn't taken her weapons with her, and she stopped talking so brightly about the other people from Remnant... or about anyone at all, really.]
[it was after another night of horrible nightmares, in the early hours with the sunlight just barely creeping over the horizon, that she finally moved from the couch she'd been sleeping on back into their shared bedroom. standing in the doorframe with her eyes on the cold mechanical glare of her screen, she punched out a message. the text-to-speech function activated, and a robotic voice read out:]
Nightmares. Hard to talk. Something bad happened a few days ago. Really, really bad. I'm sorry.
[Neo wasn't handling it well by the third day of this. She'd been agitated, huffy, almost pouty. But when she didn't think she was being watched, she'd looked nervous and outright worried. In fact, she'd been anything but emotionally stable for days now.
The natives were broken. The city was broken. Everything was starting to crumble, which meant that the dream was crumbling, which meant that this was all crashing down. The promise that the Moss King had made. It still hovered in the air. She wanted her perfect life. She didn't want to go back to Remnant, to loneliness, to pain, to working for one psycho she wanted to kill for getting one of her only friends killed, or someone who just wanted to destroy everything.
And now Emerald had been distant. She'd wanted to talk, but Emerald had been a wreck, for days. Eventually though, Neo knew something was up. Sleeping on the couch was a good hint. She was there, curled in the bed, bags under her eyes, hair a mess as she took her phone and did the same thing. Text to talk would work today.]
It's ok. I love you. Come here. We can talk. Or hug. Whatever you need.
[Honestly, as mad as she was, as confused and frightened, she didn't care. She just wanted Emerald to come over.]

In return?
I'm pretty sure it was even dumber than that when he asked her out.
